The designer of the KidsErgo was looking at the effectiveness of the yoga ball as a way to improve back and stomach muscles and enhance focus, but he found that exercise balls tend to deflate, explode, and roll away; they can also be space-consuming and not particularly attractive, especially in classrooms. He set about deconstructing the yoga ball, creating a central core tube which he rendered flexible by making it like a giant bellows. This would allow the body to make small movements on a flexible but stable base.
Offering kids flexible seating options in the classroom means they are able to take ownership of their learning, increase engagement, self-regulation, stress reduction, decrease hyperactivity and increase focus.
